Other Applications

Background
01

CONSTRUCTION

Iron oxide pigments have long been used in the building industry in applications such as concrete, bricks, blocks, veneers, decorative stones, roofing tiles, grooves, and asphalt.

There is no doubt that the use of color in these and other cement applications is on the increase.

COSMETIC

Iron oxides are mild and non-toxic in cosmetic products applied on the surface of the skin; they are typically not harmful to the skin and are not considered to be allergenic.

Iron oxides normally do not cause problems for people with sensitive skin.

PAINT

Iron oxide imparts special properties to paints and coatings when flaky particles are aligned in such a way as to resist the penetration of moisture and external gases.

This allows creating paints with better coatings that can prevent corrosion and oxidation of metals and can also prevent the formation of blisters, cracks, and peeling, on the surfaces where the paint is applied.

It also allows intensifying the color of the paint.

PHARMACY

Iron oxides, also known as ferric oxides, are coloring agents for tablets and capsules used in the pharmaceutical industry.

Iron oxide red naturally occurs as hematite ore and rust. The FDA controls color additives used in meats, medications, cosmetics, and medical devices.

Ferric oxide yellow is an inorganic yellow pigment used as a coating pigment in the pharmaceutical industry. It is also known as [FeOH3] yellow iron oxide.

It exists as an amorphous yellow powder and is predominantly used in the cosmetics industry.

PLASTIC

Iron oxide pigments are commonly used in the plastics industry, coloring a variety of plastic items such as food packaging, vinyl siding, home computers, car parts and fenders, soda bottles, and toys.

The properties of iron oxides allow to creation of different colors that when applied to each product, its finish is uniform.

RUBBER

Chloroprene and butadiene rubber mixtures can be cured with iron(III) oxide and the degree of curing of these compounds depends on their composition and in particular, on the molar ratio of both elastomers.

The curing degree increased with the chloroprene rubber content of the CR/BR mixtures.
